Craik began as a railway station on the line built between Regina and Saskatoon, which was in place by 1890. Before the rail line, the route between those two main settlements was travelled by foot and cart. Homesteading in the area started in 1901, and many of the settlers came from western Europe by way of the United States, drawn by the availability of farming land.
